Cervical spondylosis and nerve root lesions. Incidence at routine necropsy.

چکیده
Cervical spondylosis is a common condition. It is often associated with brachial neuralgia and occasionally it produces spinal cord compression. Although the bony changes may be very obvious on radiographic examination, clinically the disease may not be severe. The real importance of the bony and soft-tissue changes in this condition lies in their effect on adjacent structures. Although the incidence of myelopathy is low there are very many elderly people who suffer from sensory symptoms in the distribution of the brachial plexus. Most of the pathological studies of cervical spondylosis have dealt with the changes in the intervertebral discs and, although there has been much speculation about the mechanism by which symptoms are produced, the histological appearance of the cervical nerve roots has received little attention. This remarkable omission from the numerous papers on the clinical presentation of brachial neuralgia may possibly be explained by the relative inaccessibility of the nerve roots. We have attempted, first, to determine both the incidence and distribution of degenerative disc disease and apophysial joint arthritis, and secondly, to see if there is any correlation between the bone disease and the histological lesions in the cervical nerve roots.

IntrOductIOn Cervical Radiculopathy (CR) is a neurologic condition characterised by dysfunction of a cervical spinal nerve, the roots of the nerve, or both [1]. It is a clinical diagnosis based on a sclerotomal distribution of motor and/or sensory changes or complaints. Any process that causes impingement of exiting cervical nerve roots can lead to a radicular disorder. Impingement may be broug...

OBJECTIVE To observe the influence of the change of cervical curvature on the nerve root and the vertebral artery of the patients with cervical spondylosis and the curative effect of therapeutic manipulations. METHODS Sixty cases of cervical spondylosis with the change of cervical curvature, 60 cases of cervical spondylosis without the change of cervical curvature and 60 normal people were ch...

Aim: To study cervical spondylosis of the nerve root treated using a Longs' bone reduction maneuver combined with silver needle acupuncture. Methods: 112 patients with cervical spondylosis of the nerve root were divided into treatment (group A) and control groups (group B). متن کاملCervical spine surgery
Most surgery is designed to relieve compression of the spinal cord or spinal nerve roots. Reduction in the bore of the vertebral spinal or root canals (spinal stenosis) can occur in many conditions, and some patients have congenitally narrow canals. Osteophytic projections at the intervertebral joints (cervical spondylosis) are the commonest problem. Tumours, infection, trauma, disc protrusions...
